The Arts Return to The Heart

Language Arts and Music instructor Dorsey Forman has many gifts.  His true gift is his ability to look beyond a child’s limitations and find the hidden talents God  has planted in each child’s soul.

Thanks in part to a grant from North St. Antoine, Incorporated and District 44 State Representative -Wilfred Pierre, a Mini-Arts Academy was created at Immaculate Heart of Mary School.  Students at IHM School receive instruction in the Arts at least twice a week.  Keyboards equipped with headphones provide opportunities for students to practice while the instructor gives individual instruction.  An experienced band director works with students interested in learning to play the saxophone, the clarinet, the flute, the horn and drums.  Music stands and music sheets were purchased through grant funding.

Dance teachers with Elite School of Dance work with boys and girls to develop dance skills by toning and strengthening muscles so that students can use their bodies to express themselves through motion and dance.  Over the past years IHM has received over $35,000.00 from North St. Antoine, Inc. to  fund tutoring programs, student success incentives and rewards, and the arts at IHM.
